Trash Pickup Schedule

December 2006

Trash is picked up outside your Unit's door on Monday and Friday mornings around 8:00AM by Suite Services, our contract cleaning company. Please don't put the trash out the night before or the day after, put it out on Mondays and Fridays only, not before 6:30AM.

Suite Services observes federal government holidays. If the holiday falls on a Monday, trash will be removed on Tuesday. If the holiday falls on a Friday the trash will be removed the following Monday.

You can take trash and recyclables anytime to the dumpsters in the trash shed between the Hawarden and the Gladstone. You should have a key to the shed, if you don't, call or write a Board member for a key. The trash people empty the dumpsters three times a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, way too early in the morning.

Recycling at the Hawarden

If you wish to place your recyclable items (and we do hope you are willing to contribute to preserving our environment :) please follow these guidelines:

Place your glass (bottles and jars, with or without lids), metals (food cans, aluminum, tin, steel cans) and plastics (narrow-necked jugs and bottles only, with or without caps) all together in one bag (preferable leave bag open so it is evident to Romi these are recycling items and not trash). Place newspapers and other paper items (magazines, paperboard - cereal and shoe boxes, unwanted mail, including envelopes) in a separate bag. Romi will pick these and put in the appropriate bins outside.

A couple of tips on recycling (taken from the DC Recycling Office - http://recycle.dpw.dc.gov)

What should I NOT put in the recycling cart?
Do not recycle hardback books; wide-mouth plastic tubs (margarine, peanut butter, yogurt); light bulbs of any kind; window glass or glass cookware; clothing; syringes or needles; Styrofoam; plastic bags; carryout cartons; salad bar containers or pizza boxes. Additionally, bottles that have contained toxic chemicals, such as motor oil and insecticide, cannot be put in with other recyclables..

Are take-out containers recyclable?
No. This includes pizza boxes; deli and salad bar containers; paper cartons; Styrofoam®™ boxes, and the clear, clamshell type containers that hold strawberries and cherry tomatoes.

For more information see this brochure from the DC Recycling Office.

Thank you for your cooperation.
